How I Edit My Instagram Photos

Natural lighting is the best thing when taking instagram photos, but since the clocks have gone back it’s dark by the time I get home from work! If you are really organised (unlike me) then you could take lots of pictures at the weekend and have them ready for the week but I sometimes don’t have time to do this. The only solution if you want bright instagram photos is to edit edit edit.

I take all of my photos on my iPhone 7. I have recently starting using the editing tools that come with instagram, they are perfect for adding that extra bit of brightness before you upload. The app that saves me most of the time is Lightroom. I love all the different editing options on Lightroom, increasing the exposure of the picture is the first thing I do. You can then play around with highlights, shadows, whites & blacks. I normally add a bit of everything until I am happy with the picture. You can see the difference in the pictures below…

I like to keep my instagram feed crisp and bright but I know that will be very difficult to maintain throughout winter. I have gradually started to bring in some darker backgrounds and avoiding using white where possible. In the pictures below you can see that I have used a faux fur throw which screams cosy vibes to me.

If you are like me and like all of your pictures to flow then you can download a free app called Planoly. This app is magic because it allows you to upload a picture so you can see what it will look like on your feed without uploading it to instagram. You can upload a few and play around until you have a pattern you like. That way if you need to adjust it slightly you can without having to delete the picture you just uploaded to your instagram.

You can follow me on instagram here, I would love to see all of your feeds. Let me know your tips for taking instagram photos in the comments below.

I live in Scotland so getting natural light is always a bit hard, especially in winter. Editing is what saves me. I have never used planoly though. I just use photoshop xx corinne

WOW I loved seeing your before and after photos. Just showed perfectly how a little adjustment made all the difference! Loved this post and already downloaded lightroom to my phone. Thank you!

  5. Thanks for the app recommendations, your photos look beautiful. I recently joined Instagram and am still working out all the functions. The winter nights do make it so much harder – how are you meant to find the time to take blog photos etc?!

  6. I really like the style of your photos. You edit them but you don’t alter the photo with too many filters. They seems natural, and this is what makes them very beautiful!
